Because the Voice of the Victims films are very personal to me, I thought you might want to know a bit more about what drove me into this incredible project.

I remember when I was in elementary school, our teacher asked us what we wanted to be when we grew up, and I said with full conviction, "A mommy!"  That's what I became, devoting many wonderful years to raising our three daughters.  It is the "mommy's heart" that brought me into this project.

One morning in December 2001, I saw a newspaper article about a beautiful young girl, Erin Rose, who took Ketamine and was in a deep, life-threatening coma at a local hospital.  (Erin survived with a  severe brain injury, and believes God spared her so she can tell her story - which she does on Voice of the Victims.

As I read the newspaper story, shock rolled over shock until my head was spinning.  I'd never heard of Ketamine, or of the "designer drugs" referenced in the story.  I had no idea if my own daughters had ever heard of these drugs.  I didn't know how to protect them.

I realized that if I didn't know anything about these drugs, many other parents must be in the same situation...and if that were true, then there would be many, many more Erin Roses.  "Somebody had to do something!" my mind screamed.

"Why not you?" a quiet but strong voice inside me asked.

So started a wonderful, painful and exhausting adventure.  I have met so many wonderful people, especially the many parents who shared their deep personal tragedies with me, and I've cried so much.  The people whose stories are told in these films are very real to me.  Through hours of conversations with these remarkable people, and through hundreds of hours in the editing studio, my tears have flowed...but my hope had grown.

It is my hope, my prayer, that Voice of the Victims films will reach concerned parents and loving caregivers, and through them, save the lives of young people at risk from these terrible drugs.

Please help answer this prayer.

Beth
